[solved] Weird guest window - always resetting

Hello.

I have this weird issue with the latest versions of VB, from 4 to 5.0. Tried even rev.102467 and the problem persist.
All guest windows get resized to upper left corner (see attached picture), even after manual resize.

Any help is appreciated.

VB 5.0.2 installed with extension pack added.

Did you install the guest additions in your guests?

From the hosts terminal/command window type VBoxManage showvminfo <VM Name> --details and post here. Replace <VM Name> with the actual name of the VM. Use " " if the name has a space in it.

Note if the host is Windows you need to be in the directory that has VBoxManage.exe for the command to work.

I did install guest additions and every-time the guest is setting the resolution is going in that position and size, it's practically unusable.
Resizing the window is resetting the resolution and doesn't help.

I now need to see the guests control file. It is in the same folder that has the *.vdi file and it is called *.vbox. Compress this file and post as an attachment.

But i don't think you will find something there, the file is generated by default, with small modifications to the vm, like ram and cpu.

Every vm i create, win, linux, macos have the same window behavior, shouldn't i look for something in the main program or the host's registry ?

Despite my reluctance to help those who create OSX guests on non-Apple hardware, i would have the user check the "Maximum Guest Screen Size" in the VB display settings and make sure it is set to Automatic.

i can resize the window by dragging with my mouse, but it also reinitialize the resolution inside the virtual machine and keeps resetting to the small window, it's like dragging a unmovable window, but sometimes... it stays big but always starts like that.
An it doesn't matter what vm is, linux, win, mac os (even not functional, the basic window that you get after creating the vm)

Look in the preference section in the main manager under the Display and see if the Max screen size = automatic ( as it should )

@Perryg already tried a couple of screen resolutions, with no effect, also the default one had no effect,

Perhaps is just an isolated case, must be something with my rig's drivers, I will try to reinstall VB after i search the registry and remove all VB keys, drivers and files.

And if that doesn't work... i will eventually reinstall everything.

Run sfc /scannow in an elevated Command Prompt, then reboot. This has cured the same type of issue for others running Windows 7 as host.
