What do I do to freshen from 5.0.3b102290 to ...

I'm running Windows 10 64 bit release version, XP Pro 32 bit client. The primary application I need works fine as is. I also have an Ubuntu guest for personal educational purposes.

I have a scanner which will not operate on Windows 10. I've had it working on the XP client, but not consistently, and I don't know what I've done to get it to work; I do know that it tells me new hardware was found the 2nd time, and it worked afterwards.

Recognizing the fragility of VirtualBox on Win10 hosts and the recommendation that the first thing to try is the newest build, I downloaded it (build 102467) and the newer extension pack and guest additions.

I'd RATHER NOT have to reinstall guest XP and the applications if I can help it.

What are the steps to go from one "version" to another, in this case, from 5.0.3b102290 to 5.0.3b102467, preferably without disturbing the guest machines?

Thanks!

George

Just download and install it. It won't touch your guests.

THANKS for the quick reply!

Do I unload one guest additions and reload another? I'm not sure I did anything with the extension pack, but how is it handled?

I don't uninstall the guest additions for a guest, I just install the new ones. As far as the extension pack, you just add it in the VirtualBox preferences under the extensions tab. If you don't have one already installed it will just add it and if you do, it will ask if you want to upgrade it.

Thanks. That worked.

Concerning the USB issue, what I think I've determined is that with VirtualBox Manager open, but the XP machine not open, I have to remove and replace the scanner USB cable. That's worked 3 times in a row.

If this is of any interest to the developers, pass it on, and I'll be glad to do further testing.
