8.1 intermittent disconnection multiple reboots required

Post by ChrisTheBA »

From day one (-4 years now) using Windows 8 dev preview, through all releases consumer preview, oem, and finally 8.1 now I've had chronic issues with network connectivity. The network card won't come fully online reading 'partial connectivity'.

Typically each morning requires a warm/reboot to establish network card connectivity first/cold boot can't connect. I've swapped routers, has nothing to do with that. Sometimes the network card even goes offline into "limited connectivity" if the PC simply goes into suspended mode for an hour. I've applied some hacks the Windows folks suggested, made sure the card is set do disallow sleep on disconnect and low power idle, no help. It has something to do with the way Virtualbox shares connectivity with the network card I believe, I use bridged networking to use my various test servers, but it somehow leads to Windows not seeing that its network card is primary/present, and not loading it properly somehow. I believe it first finds the VirtualBox virtual network card and somehow gets fooled into loading that?

Windows 8.1 32 bit (upgraded continually from the originally Dev preview)
Nvidia NForce networking controller onboard Biostar motherboard
Cisco Anyconnect Secure Mobility Virtual Miniport network adapter (required for work VPN)-problem occurred long before this was installed.
AMD Athlon II X2 255 dual processor
4 GB RAM (3+ usable on 32bit)

Is there a patch or something to address this?
