Capturing audio from the Guest's sound card

Hi everybody, I'm having some kind of weird problem trying to record sound from the browser or from any application by means of the standad Sound Recorder, or with Audacity for all that matters (tried both).

I'm running a Windows XP guest in Virtualbox 5.0.0 r101573 on a Windows 7 host.
Concerning audio setup, I chose Windows DirectSound as a Driver host, and IHC AC97 as a controller (an easy choice, since neither SoundBlaster 16 nor Intel HD Audio seem to work).

In the guest OS, I performed the following steps:
  • Selected sound properties through the control panel or the sound icon in your system tray.
    Clicked on the properties tab.
    Went to the recording section.
Selected Stereo Mix (and also Mono Mix on subsequent tests): nothing else was checked
I launched the browser and played a video on Youtube, then I launched the Windows Sound Recorder and tried to capture the sound: to my disappointment, it didn't record what was going on on Youtube, but I was very surprised when I found out that it had captured the environment sounds at my place through the microphone on my host...

Same story with the Audacity recording capabilities: all I was able to obtain was a recording of the sounds coming through my mike...

Where am I going wrong?
Thanks
Bruno

P.S.: my host sports a Realtek High Definition sound card...on Windows 7 there is NO WAY to set Stereo Mix or the like as a source for recording...
