Can't get 3d working in windows 7 Guest

I am using OS X Yosemite on an iMac with a ATI Radeon HD 5750 1024 MB GPU.
I have enabled 3d acceleration in the VM settings and installed the WDDM driver on the windows 7 guest.
The WDDM driver seems to be installed correctly and the name of the graphics adapter in device manager is "Virtualbox graphics adapter for windows vista and 7"
However dxdiag reports that Direct3d hardware acceleration is not available and I can't enable aero effects.
Attached is the VM log which contains the interesting line:

Code: Select all

66:46:58.240559 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::VBoxMpCrCtlConInit: VBoxMpCrCtlConConnectHgcm failed with rc(0), 3D not supported!
66:46:58.240615 VMMDev: Guest Log: VBoxMP::DriverEntry: 3D is NOT supported by the host, but is NOT required for the current guest version using this driver, continuing with Disabled 3D..
Any ideas?

Aero works for me using the latest test build. https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Testbuilds Don't forget the extension pack and update the guest additions.
