I installed the latest version of virtualbox 5.0.2_r102096 with extension pack, over the previous 5.0.0_r101573 and I get the same behaviour and errors I've since versions 4.16 and later.
I get two main issues:
- vm (no matter the guest) starts oddly: the window is minimized, it crash in fullscreen, if I try to to resize it minimize again and after a short time it crash as I reported in the second screenshot. The vm i tried to start is a Linux guest.
- fail to import vm exported in OVA format from older version of Virtualbox (version 4.13) as I reported in the first screenshot. The vm i tried to import is a Windows7 guest.
"The instruction 0x00000000 referenced memory at 0x00000000. The memory could not be written. Click OK to terminate the program"
Both host and guest OS are 64bit.
The logs and the configurations of the two vm and are attached in this post.
Host configuration is the follow:
- Ram: 8GB
- Cpu: i7
- VCard: GTX780x2(SLI)
- MB: Z97OC
- OS: Windows7 completely updated.
Following that indications the resize problem disappear but the behaviour of the vm is still inconsitent and prone to crash throwing the error message.
I didn't found any other similar thread.
The only functioning VirtualBox version is 4.13 but is not compatible with the newer version of Linux XOrg Server, so most of the latest Linux distributions failed to install VirtualBox Extension ("unknown version of the X Window System").
All these issues make VirtualBox completely useless.
I tried to unistall and reinstall with no success (what is the best why to unistall VBox, is correct unistall from control panel then simply reinstall or, before reinstall, is better delete all registry key?).
A ticket should be opened?
Inside the user folder are several SVC logs file, can they be useful?
Thanks for reading and to anyone who helps!!
