Network adapters "Not selected" after upgrade to Windows 10

Post by Larry Menard »

I've been using VirtualBox very happily on my Windows 8.1 64-bit host for over a year (currently 4.3.3). Last night I upgraded to Windows 10, and none of my VMs start now.
Could not start the machine CentOS 6.5 64-bit because the following physical network interfaces were not found:

Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 (adapter 1)

You can either change the machine's network settings or stop the machine.
If I select "Change settings" it displays the VM's network settings, and a message "Invalid settings detected" at the bottom of the dialog box.

The "Enable Network Adapter" checkbox is checked and the "Attached to:" drop-down is "Bridged Adapter" (which is correct), but the "Name:" drop-down just says "Not selected". There are no other options available for that drop-down.

After I close the VM I get another dialog saying:
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine CentOS 6.5 64-bit.

Nonexistent host networking interface, name 'Intel(R) Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260' (VERR_INTERNAL_ERROR).

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: Console
Interface: IConsole {8ab7c520-2442-4b66-8d74-4ff1e195d2b6}
I see on the Download page that VBox 5 is not supported on Windows 10, but I see no similar warning for VBox 4.3.3, so I presume this should work.

Can anyone help? (Obviously, this is urgent.)

Thanks.

Forgot to mention... I have tried re-running the Installer, first the "Repair" option, then the "Uninstall" option and re-install. Didn't help.

Hi,
I had same problem. I simply solved by installing virtualbox 5.

You can zip your logfile and attach it directly with the "Upload attachment" function below the message entry box. ;)

I took marcello.g's advice and tried installing VBox 5 (5.0.2 to be precise).

Now things are even worse.

When I try to start the VM I get:

RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)

I have no choice but to select "Abort". When I do, I get:

Failed to open a session for the virtual machine CentOS 6.5 64-bit.

The virtual machine 'CentOS 6.5 64-bit' has terminated unexpectedly during startup with exit code 1 (0x1). More details may be available in 'C:\Users\Larry\VirtualBox VMs\CentOS Linux\CentOS 6.5 64-bit\Logs\VBoxStartup.log'.

Result Code: E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component: MachineWrap
Interface: IMachine {f30138d4-e5ea-4b3a-8858-a059de4c93fd}

Please see attached VBoxStartup.log file.

I think I'll be reinstalling 4.3.3...
