Start Dual Boot Linux in VM in windows 7 host

Post by klamathh »

hi all, I found an article in the net and followed instructions on how to start in a virtual machine an OS ( linux ) physically present in a prtition on disk.

The boot shows up the bootloader but when I select linux the screen become black and nothing happens.

Any Clue ? Is it really possible ?

The laptop has a single disk with 6 partitions; winz is on the second, Linux has swap on third, root on
fourth and home on fifth

Thanks

Raw drive access is an expert feature, so you won't get much help here since its use is very limited.
However your problem seems to be like your bootloader is simply lost and cannot boot the right partition anymore.
You'll need to check with whoever wrote the article for further debugging instructions.

You use a tutorial form some place in the cloud and you ask us to tell you what went wrong? Do you not see an issue with that?
You need to ask them what you or they did wrong.

Be very careful what you do though as this kind of thing can trash one or both OSes.

The only official instructions are in the users manual. http://www.virtualbox.org/manual/ch09.html#rawdisk
Read carefully and if you understand the information then proceed. If not I would try a different approach.
