Hardware acceleration error

I am a student trying to work with VirtualBox for my security class. I am running Windows 8.1 64-bit on my host PC. I keep getting this message.

VT-x/AMD-V hardware acceleration is not available on your system. Certain guests (e.g. OS/2 and QNX) require this feature and will fail to boot without it.

The version of VirtualBox I downloaded was supposed to give me the option for the 64bit ISO that I have, but there is no dropdown menu for that. So I downloaded the 32 bit ISO for Windows 8.1, and tried to run it with the only dropdown menu option showing for Windows 8.1 ISO, the 32 bit version.

Am I doing something wrong that the 64 bit version isn't showing up to be selected?
