Windows 10 Host - Not valid kernel code signature Error

Post by GeorgeH »

Hi,

I recently installed VirtualBox-5.0.3-102217-Win and the Extension Pack (5.0.2-102096) on my Windows 10 pro box.
Everything started out well. I created a Windows 7 32 bit VM and had no problems using it.
I then exported the image using the "export appliance" feature and it appeared to export with no issues.

I successfully tested this appliance (.ova version 1.0 file) by importing it onto two different Windows 7 64 bit hosts and it worked fine (only had to change the network adapter name).

I ran into a problem though when I imported this appliance on a different Windows 10 Pro computer.
This error happens right after trying to start the VM. Based on the startup log file, it appears as though the error is: Not valid kernel code signature.

Since this is my first time using VirtualBox I thought I'd try to get some help to see if I can do anything to get it going on the other Windows 10 box.

Any help with this would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Here is the details of the startup log file:

Please post logs as .zip attachments, not pasted text. I have added code blocks around your text to make it easier to read, but the file is still truncated.

Apologies, the last line apparently isn't truncated after all, because the same shortening occurs several times in the last few lines.

I have no idea what it means. I see that you are using a test build (5.0.3), so perhaps you better report this to whatever topic made you try the test build.

I used the latest test build for two reasons:
1) The main page recommends using it for Windows 10 until it's fully supported
2) I had tried exporting an appliance on Windows 10 using the normal build at first but it couldn't be run on any machine (even windows 7) until I upgraded to the test build and re-exported the appliance on my Windows 10 box.

For me at least, the test build seems to work better on Windows 10 since I could export properly and import on at least the Windows 7 boxes I tried it on.
This is my first forum post here so I'm open to suggestions on how to proceed.
If you think I should post this somewhere else on the forum just let me know.

Also, if you would like I could try uninstalling the test build and running the most stable build on the windows 10 box I'm trying to import/run the appliance on.

Thanks

Looks like the driver failed to verify the certificate of the VirtualBox.exe file. This shouldn't happen of course.
Maybe the VirtualBox executable is slightly corrupted, so could you try reinstall VirtualBox and see if it helps.

Kind Regards,
bird.

Hi,

As per request, I uninstalled the last test build I was using and installed the following on the problem Windows 10 machine: VirtualBox-5.0.3-102224-Win.exe

It worked the first time I ran the VM...but after a reboot it never worked again.
Note: I had to reboot because I had lost network connectivity for some reason after the install. Rebooting fixed this problem.

Attached are both the VBoxStartup.log file and the VBox.log file.

Thanks

I cannot yet imagine why it would stop working when you reboot the machine. In hope of getting a little further, I've extended the error message. Here's a new build:
https://www.virtualbox.org/download/tes ... 90-Win.exe

It would be interesting to see if this one (a) mysteriously makes the problem go away, or (b) provide some more sensible error information. In the (b) scenario, a copy of VBoxStartup.log would be very helpful.

Cheers,
bird.

Hi,

So I eventually got it to work properly on the second Windows 10 machine with the latest build you provided.
It took me a while to reply because I was getting windows blue screen of death messages every time I tried to uninstall the previous version of VirtualBox.

I was eventually able to uninstall it after rebooting Windows into diagnostic mode (no startup items/services via msconfig) and was then able to uninstall without issue.
I then rebooted the machine back into normal mode, installed the latest version you provided and the VM now works just fine. I even rebooted to verify and I didn't encounter any issues starting the VM.

Thanks again for the help.
