i updated virtualbox to 5.0.2 on my ubuntu 15.04 amd64 machine. now my two windows guests (win 7 ultimate x86, win 8.1 pro x64) give me a black screen after the login. the corresponding guest additions are correctly installed. sometime i can workaround it by saving machines state and restart it but sometimes it does not work. the bug is exactly what has been already reported here about earlier vb versions: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/9330
every fix is welcome. thank you.

A bug ticket from 4 years ago is not going to be relevant.
Pick a VM and post a VM log file: With the VM fully shut down, right click it the GUI. Select "Show Log" (ONLY) and save "VBox.log" to a zip file. Attach the zip here.

Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
After installing guest drivers, Win7 default session screen turns into a blackhole.
That includes both login (user selection) screen and CAD screen.
The OS is fully functional, and when you move mouse over, i.e., password field, cursor turns into an I-beam and you could type in a password and enter user session, where everything works close to normal.
But this is not an experience I'm used to.

Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
today i tried to restart my windows 7 guest in order to get a proper log file from a powered off machine. windows did some 29 updates and after that restarted. and... now it does no longer boot into a black desktop. don't ask me what happened. the only inconvenience is that even the guest is set to use fullscreen (host+f) the unity global menu bar is covering the guest. workaround is to press host+f several times after logging in.
Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
Here is my log. I'm having the same problem as el_viejo. I had 5.0.2 installed but have upgraded to 5.0.3 r 102217 and have the same problem.

Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
Correction to my previous statement. My screen was black on 5.0.2. When I upgraded to 5.0.3 I could get to the login prompt and login but the screen wouldn't paint properly I only saw my wallpaper, but the preview window in VirtualBox Manager showed the image properly. I disabled 3D acceleration and now the displays properly. I can replicate the problem by enabling 3D acceleration.
Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
bad news, after a few days the problem went back. logfile attached. before extracting the log i did the following:
- i started the machine from power-off state
- machine booted into the windows login screen
- i typed my password, machine starts windows using my profile, screen turns black
- i make virtualbox send ctrl-alt-del to the vm and after 1 or 2 minutes the screen turns on with the option to start task manager, log out etc.
- i powered off the machine by the windows menu
i hope the attached log is of any use.
thanks

Re: update to 5.0.2 leads to black screen
to narrow it down a little: in order to make guests screen reappear there is no need to send ctrl+alt+del but just wait 1 or 2 minutes and voilá.
