VBoxUSB.inf install = "The request is not supported."

Hi,

I am trying to install VirtualBox on a Dell Inspiron running Windows 8, 64-bit, to use with Genymotion. I tried the version packaged with Genymotion, which failed. I tried, manually, installing 4.1.40, 4.2.14, 4.2.32, and 5.0.2. They all failed and rollback the installs. I enabled logging and the problems seems to be installing the VBoxUSB driver. I tried, manually, installing VBoxUSB.inf and I get an error: "The request is not supported."

Thanks.

Zip and attach the install log file to this topic please. We can't do much without it.

Hi,

I have two, different log files:

MSId81c7.LOG was generated by executing VirtualBox-5.0.2-102096-Win.exe, with the log option.

VirtualBox-5.0.2-install.log was generated by extracting VirtualBox-5.0.2-102096-Win.exe and executing VirtualBox-5.0.2-r102096-MultiArch_amd64.msi, with the log option.

Both logs contain the line:
DIFXAPP: ERROR: encountered while installing driver package 'C:\Program Files\Oracle\VirtualBox\drivers\USB\device\VBoxUSB.inf'
which caused me to try to install VBoxUSB.inf, manually. That produces the error: "The request is not supported."

I'm checking back to see if there is an update here. I have tried every fix that I can find, with no avail.

I set the Network MaxFilters to 20. I created logs from the EXE and MSI and they both state that they error is while installing VBoxUSB.inf (as noted in the attached logs from my previous post). I tried installing VBoxUSB.inf, by right clicking on it, and I get an error: "Adding the driver package failed : The request is not supported." I tried installing VBoxUSB.inf, with the "pnputil -i -a ..." command. I get the same error that the request is not supported. I am installing as administrator. If I don't install as administrator, I get an error about insufficient permission. That is how I can verify that when I install as administrator, because I get a different error than permissions.

I am running Windows 8 and I restarted Windows with the Disable Driver Signature option.

Thanks.
