I just upgraded from an early VB 4.3 to the latest VB 5 release (due to Windows 10 client unable to connect via RDP)

I got an error when trying to open the VM (Failed to launch Remote Desktop Extension server) so went back to the latest VB 4.3.30 and installed the matching extension pack (confirmed in system tray as 4.3.30), but I still get the same error.

If I disable Remote Display Server then the VM loads but obviously I cannot connect remotely.

It is a very long time since I started using RDP but as far as I remember and can see from the docs, there is nothing that I need to do to make RDP work.

The version of VirtualBox you are using, and whether you have installed the Guest Additions (in the guest).
Host & Guest make and version including 32 or 64 bit, and the amount of memory available to both.
VM log file (as an attachment) See your VirtualBox users guide for how to locate this if using CLI or right click the guest in the VirtualBox main manager and select show log. Then choose save.

I have attached one log but have the same issue with all 6 XP VMs that run on this server and the several Linux ones as well (though for those the loss of RDP is not an issue as they are administered via a browser)

PS: Thought I would add an error log as well. Just tried to start a Linux host and the few lines of the log are as below. The extensions pack for this Linux VM has not been updated but runs OK as long as RDP is disabled.

The extension pack needs to match the running version of VirtualBox.

I just realised you're mixing Guest Additions and Extension pack.
Guest additions (as the name suggests) are installed in the guest.
Extension packs are installed in the host!

Just shows how long ago it was when I did this last! Indeed I was confused.

The main issue was that I had downloaded the extension pack but failed to install it.

I have done that now but I am now getting the original error "The server denied the connection" which I understood to be a Windows 10 issue with RDP that was fixed with the latest version in both 4.3 and in 5.

Version 5.0.2 cured the Windows 10 issue.

It can also happen if your download timing is unfortunate.

I downloaded the Extension Pack (6.1.14) for my current VirtualBox (6.0.?) and discovered it was incompatible. The next day I uninstalled VB and downloaded&installed VB (6.1.16), and installed that extension pack, only to get this error.
Notice the slight difference in version? V6.1.16 must have just been released between the two downloads.
