Installing Android on a Windows Host PC with AMD 64bit

Post by kontiki »

Hi

I recently upgraded from Windows 8.1 (AMD A8-4500M APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics), 8GB RAM, 64bit) to Win 10. This basically worked fine, in spite of the hundreds of programs & lots of data, etc.

I tested the installed VirtualBox version 5, which has Win XP, Win 7, Linux Fedora & MAC Yosemite & it works fine.
In the PAST under Win 8.1 & VB version 4.x (the latest versions then), I failed to install Android from sourceforge ... android-x86/ RC 2, for a reason I do not remember.

This however was possible in VMWare free player.

This time, I tried again to install the latest RC 3 ... on VB. I create the VM (which seems to work well for some folks, at least with older Android versions, but no host processor named, ... possibly Intel).
The Youtube-based tutorials & elsewhere show the OS is given as Linux 2.6 / 3.x / 4.x (32-bit), I used Memory: 2048MB, Video memory 128MB, Storage 8GB.
After powering on the VM, whichever of the 4 booting possibilities you choose (I would choose installation on HD), it seems to start off well, but first to the black screen then seconds later, jumps back to the light blue screen with the 4 booting options. This keeps going on & on.

So is it possible at all to install Android in VB with a host PC with an AMD processor? I am NOT a profi & any solution would only be helpful if I am told exactly what to do. :)
When installing MAC Yosemite, at least one gets in the tutorial the option to feed in "AMD64" for the installation to work at all.

Lastly & unconnected: I was forced by Oracle when registering to submit all sorts of what should be unnecessary details that should not concern them  , since all are compulsory fields. The email is also set to be the login/username. I however see folks here have other usernames. How do I not use my email as a publicly accessible username? I do not see anywhere in the profile (in the forum or on the Oracle page, where a none-email username is rejected!) where to change this. It would be shameful & grossly irresponsible in the age of bots harvesting emails.

Thank you & regards

Windows 10 is not yet a supported host. However, in the meantime see the existing "Windows 10 Hosts" topic. There is no reason to repeat all that in a new topic.

This is a user forum on a server which happens to be owned by Oracle. None of us here have any control over Oracle signon policy. However I would note that while many of the fields you mention are indeed technically compulsory, they almost all have a non-committal setting such as "Other" which you can use if you don't want to reveal that information - or it doesn't apply. The email address and a real address is the only really compulsory information, as it is with most online forums. If you don't like it then blame the spammers for spoiling it for everyone, don't blame us.

Android is not a supported guest OS. Any success you have with an Android guest is purely accidental. If you Google the subject then you will find information from people who have already tried it.

Also read Important notice regarding Mac OS X as Guest.

Hi there

Thank you for the quick response.
Actually as you note, I mentioned my VB was upgraded from Win 8.1 to Win 10. Everything that was working before is working now. Android also could not be installed on the same machine under Win 8 when I tried with VB & some version of 4.x, so I think the probably the problem is not Win 10.
Regarding MAC OSx, thanks for letting me know the policy here. I just mentioned it, as one of the guests working normally & I was only getting a problem with Android before (with several 4.x versions until I recently updated to 5.0) & after the upgrade to Win 10. Otherwise please feel free to delete any references to it.

About the Email, I was not blaming the forum as such, but much more asking how other users like you who seem not to be using email username - how they achieved that. I will explore the possibility of Oracle simply deleting the account, but that is another issue.

On the Oracle page, even just a few moments back, the info: Name First or Given Name, Last Name, Job Title, Country, Work Phone, Company Name, Address, City, ZIP/Postal Code are NOT optional. I just tried to delete them & for each, you immediately get the a red error message like "Error City is required". That was the case even when registering, to be able to post in the VB forum. I am not aware of any other forum that requires this or does not make at least some of this optional. I can use my email for Oracle for other parts of their site but NOT their public forum as a username.

Thank you & kind regards
