Hello I recently installed Virtualbox to run a checkpoint lab. Allthough i still have problem getting around why some things didnt work before that is not the real issue host-only-adapter did work as expected but not longer. Currently i have two machines one that worked before one newly installed. They can ping eachother but have no contact to the host. They cant ping the gateway 192.168.56.1. The host can ping itself (192.168.56.1). tcpdump reveals they send arp requests but no responses. Having wireshark on at the same time scanning the Virtualbox adapter on the host reveals no incoming arp requests. Setting a static arp of the gateway does not help. I have disabled and enabled both the guest NIC and the Host NIC. If my understanding of the networks is correct this host only adapter behaves exactly like an internal network. Any help in how i can further troubleshoot this?
EDIT: Additional info Host is Windows 7 Enterprise 64-bit SP1, Guest is Gaia R77.20, Virtualbox Version is 5.0.0
Kind regards a troubled soul

Re: Host-only-adapter not working no connection to host
Are you aware that Windows 7 typically ignores pings? That it has to be configured to respond?
Re: Host-only-adapter not working no connection to host
Yes i am aware that Windows firewall blocks ping by default, i have also opened up the firewall to allow all protocols from the guest network or do you mean something else? I can neither get connection from host to guest or guest to host but from guest to guest so i know the guest should be able to respond to pings if the arps would get through. There seems to be no connection at all between guests using host only adapter and the host.
Since the i am using wireshark on the host only adapter in windows i also am sure the arps is sent to the correct "NIC" with correct mac and IP adress.
EDIT: I am not sure if this is usual behaviour since its a virtual adapter but in status page of adapter on the host pakets recieved and sent is 0 / 0.
Could someone confirm if this is normal behaviour?
IS there any way to "reset/reinstall" the adapter in case it has crashed or something? I already tried disable and enable it.

No, I didn't mean that the firewall was blocking anything. I mean the corresponding Win7 feature is not enabled. Nobody is listening for pings.

Re: Host-only-adapter not working no connection to host
Hello, I am not sure the link you posted was correct but the solution in that topic is to put a rule in the windows firewall allowing ping since it is blocked by default. In any case this should not be the problem as there is no response during ARP requests which is neccecary for any type of ethernet transmission.
Re: Host-only-adapter not working no connection to host
The problem is located. I saw a different post here saying host-only-networking not working after sleep. I have both been able to fix the issue through a resstart and reproduce it through a sleep and wake. There seems to be an issue when going to sleep that makes the host-only network not function correctly.

Re: Host-only-adapter not working no connection to host
did you find out a solution to get host-only network work after a sleep/hibernate without a full restart?
