FAQ: I have a 64bit host, but can't install 64bit guests.
I have followed everything in that link to that one post. So my computer can work with virtualization and it's enabled in my BIOS. I have disabled any type of virus protection software and no change... really would like this for my studies :(

I believe the BIOS switch to turn on VT-x/AMD-V requires a full power-down shutdown, not just a reboot. Might be why it didn't work the first time.

It could also be the AV - A small number have been known to grab VT-x. Hopefully a side effect of the rise of Hyper-v is that AV will leave VT-x alone.
