[Solved] Unable to update or uninstall VirtualBox

I recently upgraded my hosts system to Windows 10. Now I am unable to update or uninstall VirtualBox version 4.3.26. I receive the following message when I attempt to do so:

The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.

Click OK to try again, or enter an alternative path to a folder containing the installation page 'VirtualBox-4.3.26-r98988-MultiArch_amd64.msi' in the box below.

I came across a page on Reddit entitled Warning: Do not install Oracle VirtualBox in Windows 10!. I tried following the instuctions but they do not work on my system - I'm unable to start the msiserver in safe mode on my system.

Any advise on how I can uninstall VirtualBox?

I take it you retyped that error message? Because it would normally be asking for a path, not an oath...

First, please understand that you are describing a problem with Windows MSI (the MicroSoft Installer) - not a problem with VirtualBox.

Second, it's sounds like a familiar problem that is not new in Windows 10, caused by deletion of the installer files that Windows thinks it still needs (or equivalently: installing from a media that is no longer attached). The steps to fix are :-

1. Extract the MSI bundle by running the 4.3.26 installer .exe on the command line with the "-extract" term, this unpacks the individual MSI files for 32bit and 64bit.
2. Copy the appropriate MSI to the folder named in the error message, or browse to it as the error message tells you.

I remember I did a disk cleanup before upgrading to Windows 10, so that was probably the culprit.

I'm trying to uninstall virtualbox 5.0.6, and the uninstall procedure stops because it cannot find the file VirtualBox-5.0.3-r 102322

I tried to find this old build in the web site, but I can see only the 5.0.2

5.0.3 was a test build, not a release. I have no idea where you might find a copy.
