I just installed Windows XP on a Mac host, and my problem is that Internet Explorer is not working properly. IE works for some websites, but not others; for example, Google does not work but Bing does. For pages that don't work, I get the standard "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage" message. Notably, all sites work in other browsers such as Firefox and Chrome. I need to use IE, however, because a specific web-based application I'm trying to run only works in IE.

The error occurs even if I put in a direct IP address. If I put in 216.58.192.46, which is Google's IP, I get the same error message.

I'm running IE 8 in Windows XP SP2 in VBox 5.0 r101573. It is a fresh install of both Vbox and Windows XP with all default settings.

Its a sign of a storm coming our way. As Microsoft ended support for Windows XP SP2, its becoming troublesome day by day. XP does not support next version of SSL connection. Please google below link and you will get an idea what I am talking about.

I'm afraid that we don't do obsolete IE versions support here (though you might ponder what effects obsolete might have).

Just install a current copy of Firefox and be done with it. It works fine on XP-SP3. Firefox is very configurable, I've found that there is usually some config tweak you can do to make it behave more like IE for some applet.
