When you create a new VM you can select from a large number of different Windows versions.
If you are testing upgrading from Windows 7 to Windows 10 the icon shown on the VM VirtualBox Manager will be the Windows 7 64 or 32 bit after upgrade it does not seem to change.
Is there any difference in the software included and should the selection change?

The icon reflects the OS version selected in the VM settings. You could install DOS in that VM and the icon would not change. The icon reflects what OS the VM is intended to be compatible with: VirtualBox has no way of knowing (or caring) what OS you actually install.
I will say, that when upgrading a VM from Win7 to Win10 you should change the VM OS type to Windows 10, because the compatibility requirements of the latter are quite different.

Thanks. It would appear that doing it manually would be best.
My underlying question is there a difference in the software invoked between Win 7 and Win10 when you select one of the other?

Yes there is. Windows 8.x and 10.x require different settings than Win7. Win 8.x and later will not run in a Win7 VM.
I suggest that you dig back into the archives and check out the discussions following the release of Windows 8, see what had to change in VirtualBox.
