Hello there,

i am running into problems with reinstalling virtualbox on my mac.

I also had boot2docker installed removed etc.. I tried reinstalling ran the uninstall scripts etc. but i just can't get the stuff to work. So somehow I screwed my installation paths or something.

The Installationlog says:

Could you please help? I would hate to reinstall osx.

I've found that the most recent build of VB that installs successfully on my Mac OS X 10.10.4 is 4.3.26.

4.3.30 fails with not installing that kernel. 5.0.0 fails for the same reason. To get back to 4.3.26, I first ran the uninstaller for the more recent version from my admin account (using Terminal), and then installed 4.3.26. I do it this way so I'm sure there isn't anything left over from the later builds that would interfere with 4.3.26.

I'll have to wait for a later build of version 5 to see if the installation succeeds on Yosemite. I don't know enough about installing from tarballs to do it that way. And meanwhile, I'll have to wait for updating my Windows 7 to 10 for VB 5 to install.

I hope this procedure works for you to get a working VB going again.

VB 5.0.2 also doesn't install on 10.10.4. We'll have to wait for another build.

Here's the solution to installing 5.0.2 that I found in another message series:
Make hidden files visible (I have an Automator Service that does that for me automatically; also a Hide Hidden Files service)
Locate the file mach_kernel at the root of your hard drive; delete it.
Hide hidden files.
Uninstall the previous version of Virtual Box
Install 5.0.2 (or a later version when available).

Apparently that file, which was used in earlier versions of OS X, interferes with installing the VB kernel extensions.
