Integrated Camera in Lenovo T550 prob. with live preview

Post by kangaroo »

Hi.
I'm running VirtualBox 5.0.0 on Win7 on a Lenovo T550 laptop. My guest O/S is Linux (CentOS 7.1).
The laptop integrated webcam is shared with the guest. That is, in the "Devices" menu, under Webcams, "Integrated Camera" is selected.
If I try to load an app like say, "cheese" (tool to take pictures and video from webcam), this would normally show a live preview of the video coming from the camera, but it doesn't. I do get 1 frame of video, and if I click "take picture", I can capture that same frame over and over. The light on the laptop camera stays on the whole time. If I change the resolution to something else, I also get one more frame...
I tried plugging in a separate webcam, and I can capture pictures from that, no problem.
I see the same behaviour in other camera type programs that show a preview.
Why the problem with the integrated video camera? How would I solve it?

Jason.
