Get Windows 10 response to clicking

Post by MacNala »

In a windows 7 guest on a virtual box 4.3.30 on a Windows 7 host I noticed the Get Windows popup.
Upon clicking I got the following messages

and

I have numerous VMs running the latest build 10240 without problems.
At least one of these was installed from the ISO.

What is going wrong?

The error messages will block any possibility of automatically upgrading to Windows 10, but you can use:

- the Microsoft Media Creation Tool to kick start the upgrade; or
- get a copy of the appropriate iso and use that

I haven't seen the CPU error message but there does seem to be a number of PC Laptops around that the Upgrade doesn't like, Toshiba and Acer models seem to have been mentioned most frequently on the Window 10 Forum as having problems, However, if your Windows Host System doesn't report the same problem when you use the Get Windows App you could try ignoring that as well and simply try to run the upgrade. Just make sure you have a backup of your full VM Folder that you can restore if it all goes belly-up. And, unless you have a at least 10Gb of free space in your VM, you will need to attach a clean external USB drive (not a shared drive) to provide enough space for the upgrade to work.
