Encryption error and VM corruption with VBox 5.0
Posted: 22. Jul 2015, 17:34
I upgraded to 5.0.0 r101573 and tried to enable encryption. After setting the password an error prompt appeared. I am unable to boot the VM and am receiving the message "FATAL: No bootable medium found! System halted." I tried to load a rescue CD image to mount my home partition and save the data, but it appears as though the partition table is corrupted. 'cfidsk' no longer recognizes any partitions on /dev/sda.
Steps to error:
I selected the cipher AES-XTS128-PLAIN64 from the Settings UI and set a password.
Error message:
Corporate laptop, Win7 Enterprise x64, Symantec Endpoint Protection 12.1.2015.2015 (I cannot modify the policy or turn it off).
Hard disk which hosts the VM (a 128GB SSD) is almost full, with a little less than 8GB free.
The VM is a dynamic disk - Virtual Size: 35GB, Actual Size: 20.1GB; Arch linux
Any ideas on how to recover the VM, or at least the data in /home, would be much appreciated.
