Not enough space to create image file on desktop....plz help

Windows 8.1 host. I'm trying to use FTK Imager to create image file. I add the destination as the desktop but when I go to run the program its says it takes 3810 mb but only 3310 available. I can NOT figure out how to increase. I'm late on my assignment and have tried everything. Thanks so much

Telling us what the guest is would be more relevant than telling us what the host OS: all we need from the host for this is enough space for a larger disk.

Options:

1. Follow the official method of enlarging a disk: How to resize a Virtual Drive.
2. Unofficial, but often easier (GUI) method of enlarging a disk: use CloneVDI.

I assume that the disk you want to enlarge contains the VM which in turn contains disk analysis software. I assume you don't want to mess with the size of a forensic disk image.
