It's been a while since I've used VB so maybe I'm trying to do something I can't. The resolution on Guest Windows 8.1 is currently 1152x864. Host is OS X El Capitain public beta. When I try to resize the guest window, I get this for Scaled Mode

and this for Not Scaled Mode.

I thought stretching the guest window used to change the resolution of the OS before. I see the menu option View > Virtual Screen 1 but all the resolutions are greyed out.

They are greyed out because the 5.0 guest additions aren't installed.

Installing the GAs will give you a bigger range of resolutions, but I don't think it will resolve the underlying problem, which is that the Windows guest thinks it has a 4:3 display (note aspect ratio of current display size vs that of the window), and so it is helpfully disallowing "incorrect" widescreen ratios. The picture shows it already using the maximum 4:3 ratio that will fit in the window.

I have a solution, but there's no point giving it until it's confirmed that the OP still has a problem.

This was resolved with the installation of the Guest Additions. Thanks.
