VirtualBox 5 and Realtek VLANs

Post by jwest68 »

This has worked for all prior versions of virtualbox, but stopped in virtualbox 5, and kinda killed my ability to use vlans.

Previously, I used the Realtek VLAN driver (which basically creates children lan adapters with vlan set), and I could bind those into my virtualbox lan driver. After every update, I always had to unbind the virtualbox lan driver from the master lan adapter, and turn on the bindings in each of the children vlan adapters. Now however, the virtualbox lan driver is not appearing as an option in my children vlan adapters, so I can't use my vlans any more. Is there any way to get the older network driver back?

I have the same problem.
"On Windows 10 I can't install VirtualBox NDIS6 Bridged Networking Driver on vlan interface. I have only on physic card interface but not on vlan interface. I try add service on this interface, right click on vlan interface, preference, install, service, Oracle Corporation, VirtualBox NDIS6..., OK and I don't have this service on list. Version 5.0.6-103037"

I too am having this issue on Windows 7. It refuses to let me add the NDIS driver to my Realtek VLAN virtual adaptor.

I found a last resort workaround.

1. Make a 'Network Bridge' that contains your virtual network interface.
2. Select the MAC Bridge Miniport in Virtualbox

It's not pretty, it's god awful slow, but it at least works.
