I am having some trouble getting an LG Slim Portable DVD Writer to be detected in Oracle Virtual Box 4.3.26. I have attached the usb drive to a Windows Surface running Windows 8.1 Pro. I configured the USB Settings to use the drive. However, when I run my virtual machine the drive will not show up. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Diane
P.S. - My surface pro is in a docking station. I have tried it in the docking station and outside the docking station and I cannot detect the drive.

Re: Access DVD-RW Drive from Virtual Box
Did you set the virtual CD drive in the guest settings to point to the physical USB cd drive you're trying to use?

Re: Access DVD-RW Drive from Virtual Box
I guess that a DVD writer is quite likely to be a USB3 device. These are not supported in vBox 4. You could try the VB5 beta.
You could also plug the drive into a USB2 (not blue) port. That will force it to run as a USB2 device, however the speed will probably be unacceptable, perhaps unusable.
Final suggestion: prepare ISO images in the guest, writing to a shared folder, burn them to physical media on the host.
