Windows 7 Guest suddenly crashes frequently

Hi all

I have a Windows 7 Pro N 64Bit running as Guest under Linux Mint 17 64bit.
For a long time period all was doing well but now the Windows guest frequently disappears and gets marked as crashed.
When rebooting the machine, Windows claims that it could not get shot down correctly ?

I still cannot see any reason?
I think not long ago, there was an update for VirtualBox in the repository that Mint installed, and i did install the guest additions.

Does anyone have an idea what might be the reason?
Thx.

I am having the same problem. Archlinux Host, Windows 7 guest. Crash happens regularly. Maybe after 10-15 minutes of guest being up. Even if there is no activity in the guest, I just leave it running and go away from the computer.

Looks like a core dump is in order so the devs can have a look. See instructions on how to provide one.

Same here with openSUSE 12.3 64bit host, Windows 7 guest. I've had the problem since I've updated to 4.3.28; reverting to 4.3.26 until further developments. So far so good. (I'll post a reply if 4.3.26 crashes as well.)

Hmm, my first try under LinuxMint 17 to create a core dump, following the instructions failed... no dump created....
At the moment, a new installed Win7 guest runs well....so this seems not to be a general problem

Hi

I'm experiencing the same difficulty. But I could not find any remedy.
I would like to attach the crash report generated in Ubuntu 14.04 (/var/crash/_usr_lib_virtualbox_VirtualBox.0.crash). But I find no way to upload the file. When I click on "Add the file" nothing happens.
How can I attach the file?

Any help will be appreciated.

Kind regards,
Pablo

Did you click the Browse button first?

Hello

Sorry, my stupid error.
Yes, I clicked on "browse" but I failed to notice that I had no read permissions for the file I wanted to attach.

Now when I click "add the file" I see an upload in action, but when it finishes everything is reset: the message content is empty, and everything looks as if I've just clicked the reply button.

Is it possible that the extension (*.0.crash) causes trouble? Is it possible that the file is too big (12,5 MB) ?

Kind regards,
Pablo

12.5 MB is much too large. See what size it is after it's compressed but the file size limit is 128k.

Hi

ok, I managed to make it smaller:
- cut off the binary part. If this part is needed I'm in trouble, because it is several MB heavy
- gzip the remaining text

I hope the scissored crash report it is still good enough to figure out the problem.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Kind regards,
Pablo
