Cannot ssh into Windows Guest VM

Hello,
I am probably missing something fundamental. Can somebody suggest what I am missing here,
I have a virtualbox VM running windows guest. I get the IP address from the command prompt, but not able to ssh into that IP from a different linux terminal.
Are there any settings that I need to make to enable the ssh access ? I didn't have any problem using ubuntu VM in similar lines.
Thanks.

Depends on the network type. If you use NAT then no you can't by normal guest IP. You would use port forwarding and VRDP.
If you are using Bridged than it would be the guest IP and normal network connections will work if the guest is properly setup.
See Chapter 6 Virtual networking in your users manual.

Thanks for the response. Yes, I am using bridget adapter.
I will go through the spec.

Did you install an SSH Server on the Windows Guest?
Windows doesn't normally support SSH as far as I know.

I wasn't able to get much out of the document, specific to "Bridged Networking" using wired "eht0".
No I didn't install SSH, could that the problem or something else ?
When I ran ipconfig, along with the address it also said,
Tunnel adapter isatap.amd.com
Media State ......... : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix : company.com
Something I should set on the host linux ?
Thanks again for helping out.

Post the results of the following from the hosts terminal
Replace <vm_name> with the actual name and use quotes around the name if it has spaces.
Post the results of the following from the guests command windows

Windows doesn't come with an ssh server. You need to install 3rd party ssh software to accept incoming ssh connections.

I installed freeSSH, don't quite understand the outcome
Code: Select all
ping 10.236.28.152
PING 10.236.28.152 (10.236.28.152) 56(84) bytes of data.
--- 10.236.28.152 ping statistics ---
112 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 111002ms
ssh 10.236.28.152
Enter passphrase for key '/home/apallapo/.ssh/id_dsa':
apallapo@10.236.28.152's password:
Permission denied, please try again.
Ping doesn't identify while ssh let's me login but never recognize my password.

May be I should have asked this earlier, apart from ssh are there any other ways to communicate with guest OS ? Thanks.

The exact same way you would communicate with another physical machine from yours, or by using
Guest Control.
