Windows 7 PXE Boot Error

Post by jslegers »

Hello,

I'm having a strange issue. I have made a test environment to test and learn WDS and MDT 2013 for imaging.
When I create a new VM for Windows 7 64Bit and it boots from PXE I get an 0x000000C4 error. See screen shot and log file.

Here comes the strange part. When I change the VM settings into Windows 8.1 64 Bit version no problem.
Is this maybe a VM hardware error?

No, this is working as designed:
The PXE boot image from your installation environment is based on Windows 8.1 / 2012.
Therefore the VM needs to be setup for this version during the first installation phase.

Oh okee. Then it is an MDT issue?

No, it's just the wrong configuration. If you want to directly be able to set the correct OS type in the VM, you'll need to use an older WinPE version (the one from win7) and configure MDT to use that instead of the built-in.
Else just select Win8.1/2012 in the template list and change it after the deployement.
