Vboxusbmon.sys - BSOD on host shutdown.

Post by Martmcd »

Hi,
Hope i'm in the right place.
I am running windows 8.1 64bit host with windows 10 64 bit (build 10130) guest.
Virtualbox version 4.3.28

If I have any usb devices plugged in (except wireless keyboard and mouse which don't seem to cause a problem) when I start the windows 10 virtual machine, or if I plug anything while it is running. I will get a BSOD when I come to shutdown the host, which could be hours later.

USB devices will often not be recognised by the host if windows 10 is running (or by windows 10).
if I plug in a usb device then start the windows 10 guest and select the usb device it locks up the virtualbox (windows 10 still continues to run whatever it was running) you cannot select the virtualbox window or close it or move it.

from my limited expertise in deciphering dump files it looks like it is vboxusbmon.sys that causes a driver power state failure when shutting down the host.

I have other (32 bit ) guests including windows 10 and have experienced no problems seems to only be the 64bit virtualbox.

anybody got any suggestions I could try to a) get USB working properly in 64 bit and b)stop the bsod on the host.

thanks
Martin
