Can't get Windows guest to access a USB device on Fedora 9

I'm running Virtual Box Version 1.6.0 on Fedora 9. My guest is Windows XP. I have a USB to serial device that VBox sees but the guest doesn't see it. In the guest I can hover my mouse over the USB (at the bottom) and it says "No USB devices attached" but if I right-click it USB it will show the device. The device is greyed out.
Any ideas?

Ya, USB is a long difficult journey for the guest. Look around.
Heck, I have it working in VB, but now my host's fingerprint reader is locked out. No more time to research that problem, after the Guest USB took me two days to fix.
Need a sticky thread here.

Don't disable the driver in the host. It's an involved process to get it working in VB. Again, look around here.
