hope this help to solve this nightmare...

this happens only with win 8.1 as host
with xp as host no

downgrading to 4.3.12 did not solve

this issue appears at win updates of april
i've unistalled all of them and first vbox starts work perfect
without any issue..BUT..at the first re-boot the issue re-appeared again
even if all the win updates unistalled..

i've spent so many times on the web searching for fix and i learn that this
is a very big incompatibility between vbox and win 8.1 as host machine

i ,desperately, ask also on MS forum but the admin reply that
is a matter of the dev of the sw....

could you pls help all of us win 8.1 users!!

thxs so much in adv!

cheers!!

:)

Please post the VBox.log file (zipped), not the startup log.

And I am not convinced that we can help even after you do that. You seem to be reporting a guest application crash, in "snetcfg_x64.exe". What makes you think this is a VirtualBox problem? (*)

Also, the VBoxStartup.log seems to come from a Windows 7 host, not Windows 8.1 as you said. What is going on?

(*) I Googled for "snetcfg_x64.exe". I find mention of it only as part of "Portable VirtualBox" which is an unsupported fork of the official software. Are you using Portable VirtualBox?

here it is the log you ask

i repeat that :

i'm running win 8.1 as HOST
win xp as guest , and the crash appear NOT when i start the VM machine with the win xp guest
BUT before when i start virtualbox 4.3.28 in my win 8.1 HOST real one
and , i repeat again, using EVERY vbox, NOT the portable ones, SINCE april win updates

you write:
"we can help even after you do that"

we did

now its your part
your or moreover DEV part

cause "googlin" i ,as said, discovered that i'm really not the ONLY unlucky to have this nightmare
there are lots outthere struggling with the increasing incompatibility
between win 8.1 and your sw

so pls solve this unfair matter that last since nearly 2 months

thxs so much again in adv for yr kind and hopefully solving cooperation

cheers!

If I may, I think the point being made is that it works for some and not for others. Meaning that is must be something that is associated with the host that is making the issue show for some and not for others. This is going to make troubleshooting all but impossible remotely. If you want to proceed you need to do some checking yourself if you can or ask some friend that has computer experience to assist you. Some things to check would be the drivers on the host. Make sure they are updated to the newest release and see if that helps. After that you need to see why this is happening. What is failing and ten we can see if there is anything to do. Please keep sarcastic replies to a minimum as these will only make people to *not* want to help.

Firewalls, and some virus software have been known to mess with the network stack as well. You can verify that but temporarily disabling them and see if the problem goes away. If it does the enable them one at a time to see which one is interfering and adjust accordingly.

The reality is, most computer problems are caused by user errors, configuration errors, software conflicts, file corruption etc. I can't say why anyone else is having problems but I do know I'm not and there is nothing "special" about my computer, my copy of Windows or my copy of VirtualBox.

(hoping that yr invite not to give sarcastic replies was directed to ALL of the forum's user or -volunteers-)

about my pc config i've posted all asked by you on this 3d:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=67840&start=60

i think i follow all of yr asking details

also update drivers at their latest vers

for your knowledge up to march with my old win xp pc i really haven't any issue

at the middle of march i buoght a new one with win 8.1 as Host
and all went well as usual up to the april win updates

so the problem is really not in my new pc, that has 1/1000000 of sw installed then my old win xp one..

the problem, if you are not blind at all, is between you, or better the DEV of virtualbox,
and win 8.1

in repeat again that i started a 3d on the MS community forum but the admin , logically,
replied that is a SW , moreover if granted and well known as virtualbox, that has to make suitable
its products in order to not have this troubles to its users

so the ball is in your part of the field
its really only up to you, better to yr DEV

but i repeat that sarcasm or not, i'm really NOT the only one
, even if a correct and fair brand should care also for only one of its user,
but perhaps this is too much uthopic i admit..

any way WE really hope you could solve this incredible BUG

cheers!!

to be serious i apologize my language
i try to be more clear:

riding on the web in this 60 days of passion i realize that i'm really not the ONLY ONE
to experiment this nightmare

if you should be a fair and correct brand, and i totally and seriously think that you ARE
WE think that you should have to take care of all of these BUG reports

and instead of try to put lots of barriers or to let things falling from the sky
you better thanks who are feeling on their skin this
absurd
incredible
bug

yours very truly

There was nothing sarcastic in my posts. It happens to be factual.

I'm adopting Perry's position.

As I thought I already said, "snetcfg_x64.exe" is not part of VirtualBox. So, we cannot help you with that crash here.

As a total guess, I'd say that the problem is caused by installing Portable VirtualBox (an unauthorized fork) on your host. This is disrupting the operation of the real VirtualBox. It might take a host OS reinstall to get rid of it.

The OP could search for that file. It mentions what it is and how to fix it.
