Direct 3D acceleration not available

Post by Stelix »

Hello all, I have an issue with Direct 3D acceleration. After searching on forums and web i decided to post here s i didnt find a solution so far.

so
i have a host PC with Windows 7.SP1 64bit
i have installed a guest VB (4.3.28 ρ1000309) Windows 7.SP1 32bit with the following settings
8gb ram
128mb display memory
enabled 3d/2d in display

inside the guest pc, when i run dxdiag i get
Direct draw acceleration: enabled
Direct 3d acceleration: not available

the application i need to run crashes as it requires Direct 3d acceleration.

i tried turning hiper-v off as i red in some post but this didnt make any difference.

any ideas/help will be appriciated

You need to install the guest additions. Make sure you choose the experimental WDDM driver. Hyper-V does need to be disabled or you won't have VT-X/AMD-D.

Given all that your application may still not run. Install the GAs first.

When you install the guest additions, there is a dialog box that opens with two items, one is unchecked by default, I think it just says DirectX. When you check it, it opens another dialog box asking if you would rather install DirectX instead. Paraphrasing. Click No, then the WDDM driver will be installed.

yup this looks like did the trick!

I didnt notice this option when installing guest extensions as i didn't have the problem at the time. some fine tuning here and there required now but all seem to work fine now.

thx!
