Copying virtual machine from old hard drive

I am aware that there are ways to export and clone virtual machines, but I am trying to copy a virtual machine from a hard drive which I recovered from my malfunctioning laptop. I have tried copying over the folder from program files and from the users area but the old virtual machines are not being picked up. Any ideas? Thank you.

Basically you need to copy which guests folders from the old "Virtualbox VMs" folder into the new "VirtualBox VMs" folder. Then you just add each one by using the " Add Machine" item from the VB menu and select the .vbox file for the guest.

Worked great thanks.
I had the error "Cannot register the DVD image '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' {0fe1ba24-f623-405c-a7a9-8c157c9b0520} because a CD/DVD image '/usr/share/virtualbox/VBoxGuestAdditions.iso' with UUID {f6d59efd-7c5f-4679-bb0d-88b36ee6be50} already exists." but I removed VBoxGuestAdditions.iso from Virtual Media Manager and now it works.

You're welcome. And yes, if you don't remove the guest additions .iso you will run into that. Always a good idea to remove the .iso once the GAs are installed.
