The older version of Oracle VM Virtualbox 4.3.28 cannot be r

Post by BigDon »

Pardon me if I am posting this improperly (I did a search on my error) but I am completely new to this forum (and frustrated). No matter what I change/delete on my Windows 8.1 machine (Alienware 18 laptop) I CANNOT get beyond the error "The older version of Oracle VM Virtualbox 4.3.28 cannot be removed" when I am trying to install the latest version of Vbox. Has anyone encountered this error and resolved the issue? Please let me know. I've searched the Internet for the last 3 days, at least, and am driving myself crazy.

Many thanks in advance for any assistance.

That is really a Windows question, not a Virtualbox one. VirtualBox for Windows is a Windows program which runs under a Windows OS and is installed by the Windows installer. Problems with install/uninstall crop up from time to time and the remedies are pretty much the same, regardless of what program is being installed/uninstalled.

Unless someone on this forum has had a problem like this and can help you, you would probably do better doing a general search for uninstall problems in Windows. It's a pretty popular subject.

From an elevated command prompt, run the following :

Code: Select all

msiexec /x {E8BB81BC-E67C-4750-84EE-128DA5A7ADA5} /l*v c:\vbox_uninstall.log
After the uninstall failure, zip & attach the c:\vbox_uninstall.log file to this topic.
