Inaccessible iso

Post by Docfxit »

I'm getting an error when I try to open my VirtualBox:

Image

I have rebooted the machine.
Host Win7 sp1 32bit
Guest XP sp3 pro 32bit
Virtualbox 4.3.12 r93733
It isn't producing a log in C:\Users\Gary\VirtualBox VMs\XP\Logs

The file is defiantly in the proper place at:
C:\Programs\VirtualBox\VBoxGuestAdditions.iso

If I right click on my Virtualbox called XP the settings is greyed out.
In my XP.vbox file I have:

Code: Select all

<?xml version="1.0"?>

A file called VBoxGuestAdditions.iso is in the proper place, but it is not the same file, and VBox knows it.

In other words you overwrote that ISO (by upgrading VirtualBox), while that ISO was still mounted in a VM, possibly one which had been suspended or snapshotted - i.e. where the current state potentially depends on the exact contents of that virtual CD.

You can usually work around this problem by discarding any saved state, and releasing the CD in File|Virtual Media Manager.

Thank you for the reply...

I have tried File, Virtual Media Manager, Optical Disks and removed VBoxGuestAdditions.iso. It did disappear. I closed VirtualBox Manager and reopened it. VBoxGuestAdditions.iso reappeared.

I have tried removing it again, I closed VirtualBox Manager and deleted the file VBoxGuestAdditions.iso. I opened Virtual Media Manager, Optical Disks and VBoxGuestAdditions.iso is there with a caution triangle. Do you have any suggestions on how I can remove it and re-install it?

Thank you,

Docfxit

PS: I don't think I changed it. The only thing that might have happened is I might have put in the incorrect version.

This is the key part that you need to check for ALL your VMs.
The Virtual Disk manager will tell you to which VM the ISO is attached if you click on it. Then check that VM and any of its snapshot.

I can't see what it's attached to. I only have the one VM and no snapshots.

Where else could I look for a problem or a resolution?

Do you see the warning shield in your last screen shot? Remove it with the remove icon at the top of that screen. Then close the main manager and see if the warning goes away when restarted.

That seems like it should take care of the problem. In Post #3 I tried exactly what you suggested.
"I have tried File, Virtual Media Manager, Optical Disks and removed VBoxGuestAdditions.iso. It did disappear. I closed VirtualBox Manager and reopened it. VBoxGuestAdditions.iso reappeared. "

I also deleted the file VBoxGuestAdditions.iso and tried removing it again. It isn't solving the problem.

What else can I try?

Thank you,

Post a zip file containing the .vbox file for the affected VM.

Shut down VirtualBox completely, and then replace your existing .vbox file with the one from this attachment.

Incidentally, I noticed that at some point you had added a second CD/DVD drive (as opposed to media) to the VM. I assumed that was a mistake and deleted that too.
