RTR3InitEx Failure

Post by arrmo »

Hi,

I am trying to run VB v5.0.0 RC1, but am having issues with a VM of mine (Linux Ubuntu guest OS). The VM works fine in v5.0.0 Beta 2, but from Beta 3 and on (including RC1) the VM will not start ... :-(. Rather, I get an error message,

RTR3InitEx failed with rc=-1912 (rc=-1912)

The title of the window looks to be "VirtualBox - Error in supR3HardendedMainInitRun..."

Any thoughts / suggestions?

Thanks!

1. Which host OS?
2. Please provide vbox.log

Sorry, that would have helped ... :). Windows Host (Win 10).

And attached is the log file (that seems to be updated from the tries today).

Thanks!

Sorry, that's the wrong log file. Please attach the VBox.log file (NOT VBoxStartup.log).

I looked at that file before ... but only the startup file is updated when I try to start the VM. All the other files are quite old ... :(.

Thoughts?

Thanks!

Did you ever figure out a solution? I'm in the process of digging through old threads now. Also Win10 host here. The last Vbox I tried was B2, which worked fine, but RC2 does not. I may have to revert.

Nope, had to go back. Same here ... B2 worked fine, nothing since then ... :(.

My Vbox.log is getting updated though (maybe that was an RC1 issue), so I can post it if it's still relevant to anyone. Not that I understand most of it, but the only interesting section that I found was this:
00:00:50.174679 ERROR [COM]: aRC=E_ACCESSDENIED (0x80070005) aIID={650b5f05-8258-4ee9-b518-89c515ca5dd9} aComponent={ConsoleWrap} aText={The virtual machine is being powered down}, preserve=false aResultDetail=0

I can't explain it, but this no longer happens in 10158.

Wow, I also can't explain that. I didn't even reinstall Vbox--it's the same RC2 install from when on 10130.

This is why we've given up on trying to support the Windows 10 pre-releases. Windows 10 changes so quickly and things get broken and then fixed again all the time. It's as if Microsoft tried to prove that rolling releases are a terrible idea.

I don't know when you plan on shipping Vbox 5, but unless it's within the next few weeks you should be able to get your hands on W10 RTM around then, such that it is.

W10 RTM is only going to be a brief moment in time though. They're going to be "rolling" that release in big ways for some time via Windows Update. I think the more settled RTM will come two or three months later in the fall release they've talked about.
