wont install virtualbox after migration to another pc

Post by wa4zlw »

my dell pc failed and I got a new one from dell. I used easy transfer to move stuff over and then have been reinstalling manually over on top of what i had to get everything right. After failing miserably a few times I manually deleted everything off the new lap[top and deinstalled the virtualbox interface and when I try and install either the latest codebase or an older one that was on my previous laptop I get the same thing. It fails to install for some unknown error and the install backs itself out. There is nothing that says what the problem is. I tried to look for logs but couldnt find anything.

THis is an dual four core intel cpu with 32gb ram and 500gb SSD and 500GB SATA of which there is 100GB free on the SSD and about 250GB on the HD. the previous PC had 8GB ram and only a 500GB hybrid drive.

I wonder if this is due to 32gb ram?

Anyone see anything similar? microsoft virtualpc is installed on this as well and was on the other pc too.

Thanks leon

Run the installer with the following arguments and attach the zipped file : /L*V "C:\vbox_install.txt"
Make sure you run it into an elevated prompt.

Looks like the error comes from the Net drivers, most likely Bridged. Could you try to install without it and see if it works?

that did it...but it was the bridged interface vbox was creating that was the problem. I disabled that in the installer. Now how do I get that bridge interface reinstalled?

ok now when I try and run a guest to install it it blows up as follows:

NtCreateFile(\Device\VBoxDrvStub) failed: 0xc0000034
STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND (0 retries)

Driver is probably stuck stopping/starting. Try 'sc.exe query vboxdrv' to get more information about its state. Rebooting may actually help. (rc=-101)

Make sure the kernel module has been loaded successfully.

[Abort]

C:\Users\leonz>sc.exe query vboxdrv

SERVICE_NAME: vboxdrv
TYPE : 1 KERNEL_DRIVER
STATE : 1 STOPPED
WIN32_EXIT_CODE : 2 (0x2)
SERVICE_EXIT_CODE : 0 (0x0)
CHECKPOINT : 0x0
WAIT_HINT : 0x0

C:\Users\leonz>

any ideas? thanks leon

Looks like the install wasn't complete/proper again. Please run it again wihtout the bridge mode and enabling the log like earlier. Attach the new log here please.

ok I deinstalled and reinstalled and now it works and even remembered the two VMs I created. I'm testing things now and if I run into anything, I'll post the install log from this install unless you want to see it anyway. PLease let me know.

Again many thanks for the assist.

here's what I found.
PC-NETii
1. installed W2K3 works with NAT and PcNETIII ( AMD ); i can get out to the world
2. I installed a Centos 6.5 appliance and installed incredible pbx on it to test. It seems it requires the "bridged" interface based on articles I've pulled up. Tried all combos of network settings. Either way, if I get a network that reports my public outside IP as well as the LAN private IP I can not ping it from my host pc and if I try and traceroute out it goes two hops and stops yet it seems to have outside connectivity. This could be the linux firewall but there's no way for me to get to this guest.

ANy ideas?

I tried to reinstall with the bridged interface enabled and failed so I went back to what I had this morning.

I've attached the most recent log.

Thanks leon
