Hey everyone. I'm hoping someone can help me figure this out. I'm unable to launch my VM for the first time, and I'm out of ideas on how to fix it. I'm trying to launch a VM to install Ubuntu on, and my host machine is running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1 64-bit. VirtualBox installs fine, but then hangs when I try to start the VM. The popup window immediately says "Aborted" after I start the machine, and I have to force close it through task manager. Below is the error it generates.
Failed to open a session for the virtual machine Ubuntu.
The VM session was aborted.
Result Code:
E_FAIL (0x80004005)
Component:
SessionMachine
Interface:
ISession {12f4dcdb-12b2-4ec1-b7cd-ddd9f6c5bf4d}
I've tried reinstalling VirtualBox, even with a fresh download, as well as disabling any firewalls and antivirus programs. Nothing changes the results though. Any help is greatly appreciated!
Edit: Forgot to mention that it says no log files found when I try to view the log file.
Unable to launch VM for first time.

Re: Unable to launch VM for first time.
Look in the VM logs subfolder and see if there's a VBoxStartup.log file. Zip it and attach here.

Re: Unable to launch VM for first time.
Well, that startup log shows that the VM started up perfectly, so I find it hard to see how there could be no run logs for this VM. Look again in the VM folder. Find VBox.log, zip and attach here.
Re: Unable to launch VM for first time.
There are no other files in the folder that contained the VBoxStartup file, unless this is supposed to be located somewhere else that I'm missing (I ran a search and also came up with nothing)? I did find the VBoxSVC file though, which I've attached. I'm not sure if that is of any help. It has an error saying that "aText={No extension pack by the name 'Oracle VM VirtualBox Extension Pack' was found}." I'm not sure if this is what is keeping the VM from starting. I have version 4.3.28 installed, and I didn't see an extension pack for that version. You can see where I mistakenly tried to install the extension pack for a different version as well.mpack wrote:Well, that startup log shows that the VM started up perfectly, so I find it hard to see how there could be no run logs for this VM. Edit: I installed the correct extension pack, but it's still failing to start the VM. This is what shows up at the end of the VBoxSVC file now:

Re: Unable to launch VM for first time.
Normally the VBoxSVC log is not relevant, but the extension pack error is certainly something you should take care of.
If I were you I would now install VirtualBox and install it again, making sure to use "Run as administrator" when running the installer.
Incidentally, you say "when I start the VM for the first time". Did you actually the guest OS yet? If not then I would delete the VM and start again on that too. Do an MD5 checksum test on your installer ISO before using it. Don't create snapshots.
