Windows 10 4.3.28 Guest Additions issue and a question

Post by GregB3 »

A while back I was having issues with the Guest Additions video driver not working in Windows 10 TP. I ended up using the free VMware Player. So far the VMware Player installation has undergone some Player version updates and some Windows 10 version updates and Windows 10 has a fully functional video driver. With all the updates that VirtualBox has released I tried giving VirtualBox another shot to see if anything had changed regarding Windows 10 functionality. On my PC using the Windows 10 (64 bit) version setting still results in the failure of the Guest Additions video driver.

From all I've read it is my understanding that with Windows 10 that Microsoft will be going to a rolling release model. This leaves me with the impression that even after the formal release date, that Windows 10 will always be something of a moving target going forward. Do the VirtualBox developers have any further insight as to the Windows 10 developmental roadmap and how it will impact future development and compatibility of the VirtualBox host and Guest Additions software? I'm wondering whether the new normal of production Windows 10 updates will be similar to the current Technical Preview release process?

UPDATE: 07/07/2015:

I did a little more work with the Windows 10 TP VirtualBox VM. I tried installing the 4.3.28 Gust Additions on the Windows 10 TP build 10130 with the 3D setting un-check marked using 256 MB video memory. The video driver and all the other drivers installed OK. I now get full screen and the Device Manager looks OK. If I try to check mark the 3D setting I get a black screen in the VM. Un-checking it restores normal screen display in the VM. I just upgraded to the 10162 build and everything is still OK. The only unusual thing that I noticed was that when the screen blanker went on that the screen came back with a smaller screen size.
