Hi Everyone,
Configuration:
Host: Windows8 (Host only network 192.168.56.101 - Unidentified network)
Guest:Windows7, Adapter1:NAT,Adapter2:Host-only(192.168.56.102 - Unidentified network).
I have node server installed on my guest which I want to access on my host. URL(http://192.168.56.102:5000/test.html) works well on guest but I am not able to access it on host. I also tried to remote desktop(mstsc) guest from host but it is also not working. I see some movement in packet sent when I run the url on host or try to remote desktop guest . It means there is some communication is happening but I am not sure why remote desktop and server access is not happening. Please let me know if I can share any other detail to help you check the issue.
Thanks
Trivender

Re: access windows guest from windows host
What network mode did you use? (Hint: NAT will not work for this).
Re: access windows guest from windows host
Thanks for quick reply . I have Host only network mode.

Re: access windows guest from windows host
"Unidentified network" might be a problem. There's a registry key that tells Win7+ that this network is secure, you might want to Google for info on that since I don't remember it offhand.
Re: access windows guest from windows host
Are you talking about the registry key being edited here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dj_CJyGfW5g . It would helpful if you can just have a look and confirm.
Re: access windows guest from windows host
Okay problem solved. Its not registry . Actually DHCP do not assign default gateway to the guest adapter and host-only adapter on host. We need to manually update it and it will work. Not sure its a bug or what. Solution found here viewtopic.php?f=6&t=59163

Not a bug. Host-Only is exactly what the name is: an interface to talk with the host, and only the host.triven wrote:Not sure its a bug or what.
There is no point having a gateway there since there is no gateway to another network to start with.
Blame Microsoft and its poor network management on this one.
