defect Host only adapter

Post by SurgeonX1 »

On Win 7 Vbox 4.3.28. after Update and use of several surfsticks.

Deinstallation, new installation or repair has no effect.

VBox works, but missing host only adapter in Win 7 prevents energy save modus.

See attachments.

Any suggestions ??

I'm not sure of the relevance of those screenshots. You said you are running a Win7 host, but those look like XP screenshots. Also I don't speak German, so it would be nice to have some clue as to what you think is relevant in the picture.

None of the pictures show a host only network card, but then I wouldn't expect them to, since the host only adapter is installed on the HOST. The guest gets whatever network card you configured in the VM recipe. The default (simulated) network card for an XP guest is "PCnet-FAST III (Am79C973)". It's the default because XP guests have native drivers for it, so hopefully you did not change this.

This is Win 7 SP1 and not XP !

Where before was: virtual box host only adaptor

is now

unknown device = German: unbekanntes Gerät !

Seven times !

Because the host Win 7 had some problems with the network adapters. The reason starting this problem was as mentioned above the use of several different surfsticks at the laptop.

The hardware ID of this unknwon devices you see by attachment.

There are now seven unknown devices with sun_VBoxNetFltmp as Hardware ID !

just in the place where the Virtual Box Host Only Adaptor was before using these surfsticks which install themselves too with network e.g. Vodafone Mobile Broadband Adaptor.

Virtual Box is working I use it only for some old programs of XP and XP as system. I dont use the networks.

So I repaired and uninstalled and new installed VBox 4.28. but no effect.

I would like to change these 7 unknown devices of Network from sun /VBox to the before there existing Virtual Box Host Only Adaptor !

I would suggest that you do a full uninstall and then a reinstall (using "Run as administrator") of VirtualBox. Do not install for the wrong user (e.g. do not install for the "Administrator" user - or German equivalent).

You might also want to uninstall all instances of your "surfstick". It's possible that the IDs of these somehow conflict with the VirtualBox host-only ID.

If you continue to have problems then please post a VM log file (from any affected VM will do): right click VM in GUI, select "Show Log", save "VBox.log" (only) to a file, zip file and attach here. Make sure the VM is shut down before you collect the log of the session. I only need that one file from the log folder - I do not want to see the others.
