VirtualBox 4.3.28 Installer Freezes

Hey all, I'm trying to install/upgrade to version 4.3.28 but the installer doesn't progress past the "Please wait while the setup wizard installs" screen. It gets to about 80% then nothing. I'm installing it under an admin account. Does anyone have any ideas or how I can troubleshoot it?

Thanks in advance.

I've had the same issue.

Tried installing 4.3.28 over 4.3.26, hung on the network install disabled the local connection and hung. Had to kill the process and reboot.
Uninstalled 4.3.26 and installed 4.3.28 without issue, but bridged networking no longer works for my guest only NAT.

Host is Windows 7x64 16GB RAM.

Guest Windows XPx32

It doesn't look like VirtualBox is installed so that doesn't apply. I'm assuming the installer uninstalled it and froze before it installed 4.3.28

Correct, when I rebooted 4.3.26 was the installed version, I manually uninstalled it rebooted and installed 4.3.28, which worked, but now my bridged network connections are broken.

Sorry, that was in response to loukingjr.

I have a feeling it's freezing just before disabling the local connection, assuming that's one of the last things it does during the installation. After cancelling the installation, I get a network error when starting the VM.

Has anyone found a solution to this?

VirtualBox has always, for as long as I've used it, had a problem on some hosts when installing the host only adapter driver. The driver loads and immediately starts hunting for a connection - you can see the icon in the notification area. Since there are no VMs running it will hunt for a long time. To speed things along I right click the icon and disable it, and the installation immediately completes. I then have to go into Device Manager to renable the VBox host-only adapter.

I'm not seeing any new icons in the sys tray during the installation. Is it normal to wait 20+ minutes? I do see that there's a VirtualBox Host-Only Network in my Network Connections as the installer is seemingly frozen.

Disregard the 20+ minute wait. The "installer" has been running for 8 hours. Right back to where I was before. :(

I'm not familiar with how the process appears on Win8. If you see the VBox host-only adapter in another dialog - after the install seems to have stalled - then try disabling it there. Or do it in device manager.

I disabled it, then when re-enabling it, the COM Surrogate process froze and wouldn't even end the task in Task Manager.

Still fighting with this. :( I see VirtualBox Host-Only Network in my Network Connections, and it's enabled. Does anyone know what the settings should be so I can verify at least that's right?

What do you mean, "right"? It's a part of the VirtualBox package, you'll need it for host-only networking. The problem I referred to occurs only during installation, disabling the adapter stops it hunting for a connection during installation, because it's a time waster. The adapter can be renabled once installation is complete. I offered it as a suggestion - the problem you have may be nothing to do with this. Indeed it may be nothing to do with VirtualBox.

Hitting Disable freezes the VirtualBox Network Status window.

The reason why I asked about the setting is because there's a VMWare one in there that I'm not sure is causing a conflict. I don't think it is because I installed VMWare after VirtualBox started screwing up.
