5.0 Beta 4 no mouse after uninstalling guest additions

Host is Server 2012 R2 running 5.0.0_BETA4r100374
Guest is Server 2012 R2 as well (Same image, raw vmdk on external esata drive)
I installed guest additions, rebooted, everything worked well.
I then uninstalled guest additions, the Guest machine crashed during the uninstall (screen glitched out and vm froze)
After hard reset there is no mouse cursor and Guest additions thinks it's still installed but isn't - trying to uninstall throws an error saying that the binary has been modified
The mouse driver shows in device manager with an error saying it couldn't start because of missing driver software, I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the normal windows mouse driver but it would always say cannot start. I boot into the image and the mouse driver issue persisted, no cursor, uninstall/reinstall the device and the driver would always fail to start. In the end the only thing that restored the mouse was installing 4.38 Guest Additions, this restored mouse functionality after the reboot, and 4.38 Guest Additions uninstalled cleanly leaving a functional mouse behind.
