Win98 4.10.1998 on Linux 64bit host sound issues

Post by mrwolf »

Hi there!

I have just finished installing Win98 (version 4.10.1998) on my Linux 64bit host, using VirtualBox 4.3.28 and the useful tutorials here.

A few notes first:
  1. I didn't use the special setup options and the CPU doesn't go to 100% when idle. Maybe that ACPI detection issue is fixed by now?
  2. installation works fine with 1GB (somewhere I read that you need to use 512MB to prevent crashes)
The problems I have found are with sound. On host I use ALSA (no PulseAudio at all) with dmix plugin, and I tried to use SB16 driver but it had weird buffering issues. So I switched to AC97 (using Realtek Win95 driver) and..it worked better - although there is a small delay when playing any sound - until all of a sudden it crashed with 100% CPU usage :(

Has anybody experienced this before?
