Random network discconection

Post by thedavix »

Hi,

I am using Virtual box on Windows 7 64Bits, with a Virutal machine windows 8.1 64 Bits. with virtual box latest version 4.3.28 r100309.
Since I configured this new VM, I am having random internet disconnections, this is what I tested
1) It started with the build 4.3.27 xxx, I tried different nightly builds but nothing changed, and now with latest version still same problem
2) I changed the laptop, did a clean install of VB, using the same VM but still same issue
3) In case it might change something, I first created this VM with parallels on a MAC and then imported it on Windows.

Bellow is what I get when I leave the ping running for 1-2 minutes.
I also attached the screen shot of my network adapter config

Do you guys have any idea on what could be happening, if you need more logs just let me know which one you need :)

Thank you !
David

I can only advise to try from a new VM created in VirtualBox (a basic linux install should be enough) in keeping the same network settings. If there is an issue with bridging, you should see it on both.
Else, it's most likely an issue in your first VM.

It started with the build 4.3.27 xxx
So, you didn't have that problem with 4.3.26 in the exact same environment?

Do you have wired connection available? Do you experience the same connectivity issues if you bridge your VM to the wired instead of the wireless connection?

Bridging to wireless has its challenges when the wireless router tries to be smart. A bit of background can be found for example here: https://www.virtualbox.org/ticket/10019#comment:18.

Debugging this will require packet captures. It might be better to file a proper bug instead of doing it here.

No I always had this problem even with 4.3.26.
I reinstalled a clean VM and doing some tests, as it's random.

I'll keep you updated if I still have the issue with the new VM or not.

Thanks for the replies!

Hi guys,

Just wanted to give feedback after one week of tests, the new VM fixed all my issues.. I don't know what was wrong with the other one.. I guess VB didn't like the disk done by parallels ;-)

Anyway, thanks for the input :-)

Have a nice day
