System partition expansion

Hi all

Can't figure out how I will extend the system partition... Seems pretty straightforward but after running Terminal scprit (I use OSX 10.9 as a host) can't expand it inside windows.

Thanks in advance.

That is a Windows support question, not a VirtualBox question, however I'll give a brief answer.

I'm not sure what "Terminal scprit" means? I'm guessing it means that you ran "VBoxManage modifyhd --resize" inside a script. So now you need to run a partition manager inside Windows to resize the partition.

In Windows Vista and later you can use the standard partition manager "DiskPart" - Google can provide you with usage details. For all Windows versions you can also use a GParted Live CD.

There are several caveats to consider. I urge you to read the FAQ carefully: How to resize a Virtual Drive.

Hello mpak

Thanks for your kind reply.

Yes the script is the --resize.

DiskPart doesn't work because its the system drive. Will try with GParted. Thanks

That's true of XP, but you neglected to say what Windows version you were using in the guest, hence I gave advice that covered all versions. DiskPart on Vista and later AFAIK does allow you to resize the partition on a system drive. GParted works for all Windows versions and filesystems, but some people are uncomfortable using third party tools for something like this.
