wireless not working guest=oracle linux host=window7

Post by launeric »

Hi community,

for some reason wireless is not working for the guest but in host it works.
I see another thread of ubuntu
Not sure if it is same issue.
I am doing my python dev in the VM so it is critical for me to have intenet working for the VM
Also attach screen shot if it helps to debug or helps me figure out what can correct t his ?
Thanks for all the help.

Briding on Wireless is down to the driver and the physical card supporting it, even if VirtualBox will do its best to make it happen. Have you tried NAT mode instead?

That is what worries me. Please tell us exactly what you've tried, how you've tried it, and what was the exact result or error message for each thing you've tried.

And what is the configuration of that interface in the guest? Static IP, DHCP? Is it up? Do you get an IP?
Did Internet ever worked in the VM? If yes, what changed since then?

Why did you configure four network adapters for your VM?

The internet is working fine with the ethernet connection but once switch to wifi it stops working.
There is a suggestion to try NAT but no luck so I just use all the possible combination for NAT if there is any luck.
This is not a known issue correct. It is just something with my configuration ??

Re: wireless not working guest=oracle linux host=window7

Ok let's get back to basics, there is too much fiddling around. Enable only the first network adapter in the VM config and choose NAT with Intel Pro/1000MT Desktop adapter.

Then answer these questions:
noteirak wrote:And what is the configuration of that interface in the guest? Static IP, DHCP? Is it up? Do you get an IP?
Did Internet ever worked in the VM? If yes, what changed since then?

I disable all the other adapter and has only one adaper config as NAT/Intel Pro1000MT Desktop.
Still no luck with wifi.
It works with ethernet cable but once I undock the laptop and use wifi, the guest just STOP seeing the internet...

From the guset:

[oracle@localhost ~]$ lspci | egrep -i --color 'network|ethernet'

Wifi has never worked for the guest..once undock from the working station. The host is fine but the guest is just stop seeing the internet.
When it is docked with the ethernet cable both host and guest work fines with the internet.

The issue is resolved!!

When I use the ethernet adapter and change it to the wireless adapter it works.
I suppose it is related to the MAC address as with the same setting for the working ethernet adapter, when the MAC address is changed, it stopped working too,

But why ?? Is VBox smart enough to configure that ? and whats the point of having the green recycle button ??

I cannot answer the "why" I am afraid. You didn't give answers to all my questions and only now you mention a docking station.
Also in your latest screenshot you're on Bridge mode, even tho we were talking about NAT until now. Why is that?
Glad it's working for you regardless...
