AutoCAD and mouse integration

Post by thanar »

Testing out VirtualBox 4.3.26 on OS X with a win7sp1 virtual machine and AutoCAD Map 3D 2016.

I have an issue with the windows mouse cursor showing over the AutoCAD crosshair inside the drawing space, when the windows cursor SHOULD hide. The issue is there ONLY when VB mouse integration is ENABLED, so I guess it's a VB issue, since if I go ahead and disable mouse integration on VB, the cursor/crosshair issue gets fixed and works as expected in AutoCAD.

Anyone has some similar experience?

As a guess I imagine it is caused by the way VB generates images to the host screen. There have been similar reports of other programs with the same kind of issue.

OK, so I have installed AutoCAD 2013 trial and managed to get the system up to production speed, by using a classic windows theme (not aero), and keeping mouse integration ON.

However, I am still having the same double-cursor issue, with is extremely irritating, since you can't really focus on the item you're trying to select using the AutoCAD crosshair, since it's covered by the windows arrow pointer, or pan hand cursor, whichever was the last used cursor.

Upon turning mouse integration OFF however, although the double-cursor issue clears, the graphics acceleration also drops to a level that AutoCAD is no longer usable.

Do you think I should open a ticket on the issue? Anyone has ever faced something similar? The issue is easily reproducible.

Looks like "mouse integration" is much more than just mouse integration, since upon disabling "Hardware acceleration" in AutoCAD, it works fine, with mouse integration both on or off, so I guess mouse integration enables some graphics acceleration also?

As an additional note, I also tried disabling 3D acceleration from VM's settings. Although I was testing AutoCAD only in 2D drafting, upon launching it it presented a dialogue that read "The configured Heidi driver cannot be loaded. Switching to default software driver.". This is all very complicated to me; any ideas of what's going on?

As a last note, I should maybe note that Parallels Desktop has gained an AutoDesk "h/w 3D acceleration certification", so I guess there would be no issues if I were using that instead of VirtualBox. But, then again, I prefer to add support by beta-testing an open source product.
